Abstract:

Background Heart failure is a major cause of death in thalassemia. The study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of N Terminal Pro B Type Natriuretic Peptide (NT-pro BNP), to early diagnose the cardiac involvement in beta- thalassemia major patients. Materials and Methods  80 thalassemia patients aged 7 to 18 years old (patients group), and 80 healthy age and gender matched controls were enrolled in the case-control study. Patients were selected from those attending to the clinic of Aliasghar hospital, Zahedan-Iran. They were subjected to echo-Doppler tissue and conventional examination for both right and left heart function. Data were analysis using SPSS 18.0 software. Results  NT-pro BNP increased in patients compared the controls (P

Diagnostic Value of NT-pro BNP Biomarker and Echocardiography in Cardiac Involvements in Beta-thalassemia Patients

Background N-terminal pro–B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is a marker to evaluate the cardiac involvement in thalassemia. We aimed to evaluate conventional and tissue Doppler echocardiography findings and its relation to plasma NT-pro BNP, Ferritin and Iron levels in beta-thalassemia patients. Materials and Methods This study performed on 164 participants equal of major beta- thalassemi...

Relationship between renalase and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT pro-BNP) in haemodialysis patients.

INTRODUCTION Our knowledge in the field of cause of deaths in dialysis patients is rapidly expanding, yet we still do not fully understand how renalase regulates the processes of cardiovascular disease developing in end-stage renal disease. Increased sympathetic nerve activity observed in chronic kidney diseases due to raised catecholamines in plasma results from the absence of renalase. Renala...

N-terminal pro-b-type natriuretic peptide (nt-pro-bnp) as outcome predictor after cardiac surgery (CS)

Methods A prospective, descriptive study for 4 months (period: Oct 2014 Jan 2015) in patients (pts.) admitted to our ICU. We included adults undergoing emergent, elective or semi-urgent heart valve replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting, and aortic aneurysm surgery. The pts. with chronic diseases that can increase the baseline NT-PRO-BNP level like chronic kidney disease, peripheral vascu...

Diagnostic and prognostic values of B-type natriuretic peptides (BNP) and N-terminal fragment brain natriuretic peptides (NT-pro-BNP)

B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a member of a fournatriuretic peptide family that shares a common 17-peptide ring structure. The N-terminal fragment (NT-pro-BNP) is biologically inert, but both are secreted in the plasma in equimolar quantities and both have been evaluated for use in the management of congestive heart failure. BNP and NT-pro-BNP are frequently used in the diagnosis of conge...

Evaluation of Serum Levels of N-terminal Pro Brain Natriuretic Peptide and Atrial Natriuretic Peptide in Neonates with Respiratory Distress

Background: Acute respiratory distress (ARD) is a critical respiratory failure due to lung injury of neonates leading to the clinical appearance of poor lung compliance. The aimed of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic values in differentiating respiratory from heart diseases with using of N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro BNP) and Atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP) in neonates...
